GALLERIA_ /_2_3_N_5_9 is my artistic practise that operates in urban and public environments. By taking Inspiration from the bllindspots and the costructed hierachies of cities i create alternative ways to breathe the city. GALLERIA_ /_2_3_N_5_9 is a series of artworks, each piece is independent, but also part of unity, where urban space and the life it serves can be observed as a choreography in it self, meaningful. The works speak about power structures of litics the designed ebvironment.
94-99, RUE DE RIVOLI In conjunction with the the first car free day (27.9.2015) of Paris - La journée sans voiture I made a proposal to turn Rue de Rivoli to a walk-in gallery with a a pop-up installation. This installation consists of large 1000x1200mm posters and the official public chairs found in Paris parcs and gardens. The posters show photographed details of the street in 1:1 size. The poster is then exhibit on the same spot that it pictures. Only difference is a small living element added to the picture, an animal or a plant.
"SITE SPECIFIC -performance for a modernistic blockhouse" The inhabitants of a modernisitic apartment block are asked to simultaniously to start vaving from their windows and balconies and greet the performance spectators that are gathered in front of the house. The performance was first executed at the AMORPH! 06 COVER UP -international performance festival.
"SITE SPECIFIC -installation" with white 3x3x3m carbonfiber tubes marked a small gas station building, that had been demolished suddenly a year earlier. The early 60's building had served meany small scale cutural activities after the station was automatized. Our team: RUSAKKO INDEPENDENT ( Brown Hare Independent ) aka Susan Elo & Tuija Asta Järvenpää created several guerilla pop-ups and happenings within urban frameworks during 2005-2007.
NATURE This public art work builds a nature reserve in the middle of an urban environment. The plants are chosen to represent the typicall wild flora of the surrounding if there were no trafic, asfalt or other human consturcting. A wall is build around this nature resort sized 20-50 m2. The wall is made out of glass bricks and represents our need to protect the nature from us not the other way round. First proposed for the city of Seinäjoki in 2017. Honorary mention at Lahti Viiskulma square open call with a titel NATURA PENTAGON 2020. There the wall is replaced with golden securityfence.
"LIGHT GYM" was a kinestetic interactive installation created for Kiasma Museum for Contemporary Art. It was the last venue in the series of light consept spaces ( "LIGHT BAR" "LIGHT CARE" "LIGHT HOSTEL") we created during 1998-2003 for the Helsinki Light Festival curated by Bo Carsten and this last for the Kiasma's "Process; Encounters in Live Situations/Shifting Spaces" -exhibition curated by Maaretta Jaukkuri. This teamwork included an interior architect Susan Elo, a fashion designer Tuula Pöyhönen and me.
"SILENCE! -Sound Installation" ( Helsinki 2001 ) manifested the need for silence in urban environment as part of promoting mental wellfare. The newspaper beds invited to lay on them and to listen to 12 soundscapes created by 12 individuals for the occasion. The same 12; the "Voimaryhmä" created texts also for my "KUOLEMA -installation" in Suomenlinna, November 2003. SILENCE! took place at VR -Magazines, an old abandoned rairoad storehouse in the city center.
